Professor Jane Apperley

Jane Apperley was the Chair of the Centre for Haematology at Imperial College London (ICL) and the Director of Clinical Haematology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) until 2021, when she stepped down and took on the role of Campus Director for the Hammersmith-White City Campus of ICL. She is also an Honorary Consultant Haematologist at the Hammersmith Hospital at ICHT in the UK.

She received her medical degree from the University of Birmingham and completed her haematology training in Birmingham. London, Cambridge and Boston USA.  

Jane Apperley is internationally recognised for her work on the biology and treatment of CML with a notable interest in maintaining fertility and parenting ability in haematological malignancies. She led the 2025 European LeukemiaNet (ELN) recommendations for the management of CML. 

She has published over 500 peer-reviewed articles and is a frequent speaker at global haematology conferences. She served as President of the EBMT and BSBMT, and as European Vice-President of the CIBMTR. Professor Apperley was elected to the Academy of Medical Science UK in 2017, received the iCMLf Goldman Prize in 2020, delivered the Pierre Stryckmans Lectureship in 2021 and received the ELN Merit Award in 2023.
