Professor Timothy Hughes

Timothy Hughes is Consultant Haematologist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Professor of Haematology at Adelaide University, and Clinical Director of the Precision Cancer Medicine Theme at South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) in Australia.

He received his medical degree from the University of New South Wales (NSW) and completed his training in haematology and internal medicine in NSW before pursuing clinical practice and research in clinical and molecular haematology in Adelaide from 1993.

He is known for his leadership in molecular monitoring and therapy optimisation in CML. He spearheaded the development of global molecular response criteria, key CML trials, and the move towards treatment-free remission as a goal in CML. His team at SAHMRI continues to innovate in predictive molecular assays to guide TKI therapy.

Professor Hughes has authored over 350 peer-reviewed papers that have been cited over 65,000 times, and is a recipient of numerous international awards for his research. His honours include election as Fellow of both the Australian Academy of Health & Medical Sciences and the Australian Academy of Science. 
Dr Hughes received the iCMLf Goldman Prize in 2017 and is the former iCMLf Chairman from 2013 – 2023.
