Professor Susan Branford

Susan Branford is Head of the Leukaemia Unit in the Department of Molecular and Genetic Pathology at SA Pathology. She obtained her PhD at the University of South Australia and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Science (RCPA).

Dr Branford holds the position of Professor at the School of Medicine and the School of Molecular and Biomedical Science of Adelaide University in Australia. She has special expertise in molecular monitoring of the BCR::ABL gene for patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia. As such she is a major contributor to international collaborative initiatives to establish guidelines and recommendations for producing reliable molecular data. Professor Branford's main research is focused on the formation of the BCR::ABL gene, the mechanisms of kinase inhibitor drug resistance and the factors that predict for response to therapy and the development of drug resistance.
