A new CancerWorld special issue marks 25 years since the introduction of tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy in CML -  a milestone that transformed CML from a life-threatening diagnosis into a manageable chronic condition for many patients.

Bringing together voices from across the global CML community, the issue reflects on the scientific breakthroughs, clinical advances, patient advocacy, and global collaboration that have shaped the past quarter century of CML management.

The iCMLf is pleased to contribute to this special issue with the article “From Revolution to Reality”, which looks back on the remarkable progress made in CML management and highlights the collective efforts that helped turn scientific discovery into real-world impact. The article explores how education, access to treatment, advocacy, and international collaboration have been central to improving outcomes for patients with CML worldwide.

At the same time, the contribution looks ahead to the next chapter in CML: moving beyond long-term disease control towards treatment-free remission and, ultimately, cure. It underlines the continued need to address global disparities in access to diagnostics, monitoring, and therapy - ensuring that the benefits of progress reach all people living with CML, wherever they are.

The CancerWorld special issue is both a celebration of what has been achieved and a reminder of the work still ahead. For the iCMLf, it reflects our ongoing mission to improve outcomes for patients with CML globally.
