× To share and enhance best practice management of CML, experts and interested clinicians can discuss difficult or interesting CML cases here. Physicians submit a brief history of the patient and the case for discussion (no more than 200 words) by posting it in this forum ("New Discussion" button below). Please include the country of origin.

Each clinical case will be forwarded to the expert clinical panel for a brief independent response. Consideration should be given to patient confidentiality. Details that are not critical to the case can be changed to preserve anonymity. Please consider including your email with the case. This will not be posted on the website, but is useful should further details be requested by the moderator.

COVID Vaccine for CML patients? was created by Anonymous
Are you recommending your CML patients get the Covid vaccine? My patient is a front line emergency worker and on Gleevec. CML has been well controlled for 6 years.

I am recommending the vaccine for my CML patients with the main exception being in people who carry Epi pens for severe allergies. In this case, I would weigh risks and benefits a bit more closely – how much exposure to COVID patients do they have, how severe have the allergic reactions been, can they be observed closely for 30 minutes to an hour after vaccination? Assuming they are not in this category, and the leukemia is reasonably well controlled, I do not view them as immune compromised, so the vaccine should be as effective as in anyone else and there is nothing about their leukemia, or their CML treatment that should cause any problems.
