iCMLf Diagnosis and Testing Program

The iCMLf Diagnosis and Testing Program offers seeding grants to hematology institutions in emerging economic regions. The aim of the program is to facilitate the diagnosis, testing and long-term disease monitoring of CML patients in emerging economic regions where it is either limited, or not currently available.

Over ten years the iCMLf have awarded 57 grants in 29 countries to enable CML diagnostics to be expanded and enhanced at a local level. This gives both physicians and patients the knowledge to make meaningful decisions on treatment.

The program is currently suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

About the Diagnosis and Testing program

The iCMLf Diagnosis and Testing Program launched in 2011 offers seeding grants to hematology institutions in emerging economic regions. The aim of the program is to facilitate the diagnosis, testing and long-term disease monitoring of CML patients in developing countries where this is limited or not currently available. Through small grants and partnerships with CML centres of excellence the Diagnosis and Testing Program plans to enable centres in emerging regions to increase their local capacity to diagnose and conduct long-term monitoring of their CML patients.

How does the program work?

The aim of the iCMLf Diagnosis & Testing Program is to build local capacity for CML diagnostics. In this way we can improve patient outcomes. Diagnosis & Testing grants are available to physicians, scientists and hematology laboratory staff working in a hospital or research institution. Building local capacity and resource sustainability are important criteria for this iCMLf funding.

The emphasis will be on finding partners in emerging regions who can implement a local solution and leverage local support on top of the limited iCMLf funds. The iCMLf will provide seeding grants to assist in funding tests, reagents, sample transport and the logistics to conduct the program.

Selection Criteria

Grants are available to physicians, scientists and hematology laboratory staff working in a hospital or research organisation. Building local capacity and resource sustainability are important criteria for this iCMLf funding.

To ensure a wide range of participants in the program only one grant per institution/department will be awarded.

The grants will be awarded based on evaluation of submitted proposals by the iCMLf Directors. The proposals should clearly demonstrate how the funded activity would improve access to diagnosis and testing along with the following criteria:
