    Winners of the 2016 Diagnosis & Testing grants

    Building on the success of the program in previous years, again in 2016 the iCMLf offers seed funding to hematology institutions in emerging economic regions to build local capacity for CML testing. From the applications this year the iCMLf Directors have selected 10 projects for seed funding to build CML capacity in the emerging regions. Countries include; Armenia, Georgia, India, Kenya, Nepal, Pakistan, Senegal, Tanzania and Togo.

    The successful centres are the following:

    1. Hematology Center after Prof. Yeolyan, Yerevan (Armenia)
    2. Independent laboratory (Georgia)
    3. Sanchetee Hospital and Cancer Institute, Jodhpur (India)
    4. The Nairobi Hospital, Nairobi (Kenya)
    5. Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu, Kisumu (Kenya)
    6. BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, Bharatpur (Nepal)
    7. Khyber Medical University, Peshawar (Pakistan)
    8. Cheikh Anta Diop University, Dakar (Senegal)
    9. Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences, Dar es Salaam (Tanzania)
    10. NGO APSBES / Diligence Group, Lomé (Togo)

    iCMLf grants are provided for projects that will increase local access to CML diagnostics, thereby building local capacity. The projects submitted in 2016 represent a broad range of different approaches to increase local capacity to conduct diagnostic testing for CML patients.

    Grants cover: 

    GeneXpert machine 1x
    Supplying GeneXpert kits 5x
    Consumables for PCR 3x
    Laboratory staff training                 2x
    Supporting physician education 2x
    Patient education sessions 1x


    The institutions awarded grants will partner with a CML centre of excellence that will offer ongoing mentoring and support at a clinical and laboratory level. This will ensure the successful implementation of each project.
