Background information on CML

CML is a rare cancer of the bone marrow and white blood cells. It is one of four main types of leukemia also called chronic myeloid leukemia, or chronic myelogenous leukemia. This form of leukemia is characterised by the increased and unregulated growth of myeloid cells in the bone marrow and the accumulation of these cells in the blood. CML has three phases and it is usually diagnosed in the chronic phase when treatment is very effective for most patients.

Hematologists and oncologists are specialists who treat people who have CML, or other types of cancer. If you or a family member has been diagnosed with CML we encourage you to consult your doctor whenever you have a question, or concern about your disease, your tests or your treatment.

If you want to learn more about chronic myeloid leukemia, how CML develops and how the disease is diagnosed and treated we have compiled resources for you that will help.
